Belfast is mentioned fairly frequently throughout the Handbooks, but it's mentioned much more during the 1960s and 70s.

This is likely to be because of "The Troubles" - a conflict in Northern Ireland, which saw violence spill over into parts of England and mainland Europe.

As the handbooks progress, Edinburgh is gradually mentioned more and more often. It is mentioned the most in the 1990s.

England

England is mentioned the most in the Handbooks, out of all other countries and cities, between the 1980s and early 2000s.

Northern

Ireland

Ireland is mentioned especially frequently in 1985. This could be due to the Anglo-Irish Agreement between the British and Irish governments in November 1985.

The treaty was created with the aim of bringing an end to "the Troubles" in Northern Ireland.

Ireland

London

As the capital of England, London is the most mentioned city in the entire series, especially during the period 1960-1970. This is because, since 1960, London has become the world youth cultural center, and many large-scale events are held here.

Of all four countries that make up Britain, Scotland is mentioned most frequently between the 1950s and 1970s.

From the 1980s onward, England becomes the most mentioned.
